What are the Functions of the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority (PPA)?

The Israeli privacy protection authority (PPA) is entrusted with enforcing the law and has jurisdiction over the private market and public bodies. 

The PPA can also impose various monetary sanctions depending on the violation (see: “Can the Privacy Protection Authority (PPA) Impose Monetary Sanctions?”)

The head of the PPA also serves as the registrar of databases, empowered to supervise compliance with provisions of the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981 and the regulations promulgated thereunder, and has administrative supervision and criminal enforcement powers. The PPA regularly publishes guidelines on topics relating to privacy and data protection , including (a) the exercise of the right of access, (b) the use of outsourcing services for personal data processing, (c) notification of a severe security event; (d) CCTV; (e) use of drones; (f) direct mailing; (g) smart cities. (h) the role of the board of directors in fulfilling the corporation’s privacy regulations; (i) data transfers outside Israel; (j) privacy protection in a state of emergency.
